Why Learn the Essentials?

Jesus came to seek, restore and redeem a broken world, and the practice of biblical stewardship is an essential part of that redemption. When we care for what God has given us in the way He intended, we and those around us are blessed. But those blessings exceed far beyond our personal finances. In fact, every major aspect of life is impacted by good and faithful stewardship. God’s Word contains all the wisdom we need to be able to look beyond the temporal and live for the eternal reward of being found faithful. But how? What do we need to do? We need to become fully His. "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." Ephesians 4:11-13 (NIV) Our hope is that through this study you will receive a vision of what it looks like for you to be fully surrendered to Him—in every area of your life, so you can experience the freedom He has for you. Your life can be transformed—defined by joy, generosity and trust in the Lord. You can experience the fullness of Christ as you become fully His—His worker, His giver, His saver, His spender, His investor—and not just in your finances, but in every area of your life: with your time, skills, abilities, family, relationships, your witness . . . all of it for His Kingdom and His glory.

This study is designed for you to be able to do on your own, with a spouse or friend, as a family, or even in a church small group. Pray for and allow God to show you how He wants to use it in your life and in the lives of people around you.

When you are ready to begin, click on Lesson and Notes for Stage One and watch the first video. In this workbook, there is a listening guide that accompanies each stage. As you watch the video, fill in the blanks. There is a space at the end of each section for additional notes.

The videos for each stage are about 35 minutes each.

Once you’ve finished watching a message, answer the Reflection Questions. This can be done individually or as a group. If you are using this as a small group study, your group may want to answer the questions immediately after watching the video, or, you may want to have group members briefly highlight immediate takeaways, close in prayer, and give everyone personal time over the next week to answer the questions and return for group discussion the following week. Also remember to commit that week’s verse to memory over the next week.

Following the reflection questions is a section that can be used like a journal. This section should help you apply God’s principles from each stage to your own life. What are the next steps He’s asking you to take? What has He put on your heart and how can you set goals to help you intentionally pursue His path?

Wherever you are in your walk with the Lord, may He bless you richly as you embark on this journey to trust Him even more with every aspect of your life. May He impress on your heart a specific takeaway from each message that impacts you and the people around you. And may He draw you to Himself in a new, real and personal way that forever transforms your life.
